What to do?

Hey guys, got a question for ya: I made the sunflower doily below and I was wondering how do I make it flat? I scanned the picture so it's flattened by me pushing on the scanner. There is another round that can be added and maybe that will help, but what do you think?

Would starching be the best way to go? What is blocking again? I can't remember, we were talking about it at our tatting get together. Any suggestions??

Blocking is simply dampening your work & pinning it out (through the picots) to let it dry. It can cure many ills.

Yes....I just get mine wet and take a piece of cardboard and cover it in plastic wrap. then use small sewing pins that you know wont rust :-) and stretch it out bit by bit, it works best for me to start in the center. If you want you can draw or trace a grid or whatever on the cardboard to have something to line it up to.

I had to check the book (Blomquist & Persson, right?) and make sure it was ths same one. You know, I started this doily myself several years ago and got just this far and it was bowling way too much so I never did finish it. I also made a mistake in one section but not enough to cause the bowling. Yours doesn't look as tighte on the outer row as mine so you may be able to block it out as the two before me explained. I hope so - it's very pretty so far!

It looks like you just need to arrange and straighten the chains (you may need to use pins, as the others have suggested), then give it a good steaming, and it will be gorgeous!
