Blocking and Starching!

Well I tried my hand at blocking and starching today. I found an old cardboard box and pinned my little creations down while they were still damp. Then when they were dry I sprayed the starch right onto them. So, I'll let them dry overnight and see how they look like in the morning. I wanted to do a test run before I did my sunflower. Thanks for all the tips guys!

Good job! Sometimes I put a layer of saran wrap over the cardboard so you can use it over and over and protect the lace from getting that cardboardy smelly, LOL! You certainly don't have to! I actually just use an old bulletin board that I'm not going to use for anything else and cover that w/ a piece of saran wrap bigger than the piece I'm using.

Yeah, after doing a white doily on cardboard that got the back all dirty, I'll use *Cling-wrap* under the doily for sure next time!! My sunflower came out pretty nice tho!!

And rust-proof pins. Wax paper also works, by the way, but you have to be a little more careful not to tear it.

I place a circular grid on the blocking board before wrapping the whole thing with clingwrap. The grip helps me pin out the points in the motif so that it is evenly spaced. So, for a snowflake I use a circular grid with six or 12 spokes, and for a star one with 10 of five spokes. Sometimes, instead of spraying, I brush on the stiffening and let it dry.
