Embarking on the Last Round...

I hope that you all had a lovely Thanksgiving and are enjoying the delights of the Fall Season. It's turned brisk here, where the water is frozen in the birdbath in the morning and the horses all have their winter coats. It has also been quite sunny so that warms up the house and barns and makes the cold a little more tolerable. Life has certainly been busy but not busy enough to stop me from tatting.  I am excited to start the last round of the Classic Doily from Linda's site that I blogged about HERE. 

My Mom and I were sitting in the living room one afternoon and she looked up from her book at my doily and said something like, "That blue thread reminds me of Wedgwood china." I then replied, "That's actually what the name of this thread is called." So we spent the afternoon 'google-ing' pictures of Wedgwood china and how, without knowing it, my doily colors match the style of the dishes and plates, etc. So to keep with the theme, I'm tatting the last round of scallops in Lizbeth 'Natural.' When I had ordered this thread I was hoping that it would've been darker, but it has turned out to be a really nice, 'softened' white. This was my favorite picture of wedgwood china that we found. The white detail reminds me of tatting :) I'll have pictures soon!

Couldn't wait to share...

Here is a sneak peek at the newest round on my Classic Doily! At first I was not liking the color change at all, but as this round progressed, I totally warmed up to this color combination. I'm planning on the very last round to be tatted in white as well, so there will be some repetition within the whole doily. It's interesting how the white rings have pulled the chains straight from the previous round - CLEVER! Always something interesting goin' on in 'Tat-land!!'

Classic Doily takes on a new color!

Time for a color change! Linda's Classic Doily that I've been working on is getting bigger and bigger! I'm on Round 10 and it's about 7.5" (19cm) in diameter. Because there is a round of all rings next, I thought about a color change! So a band of white rings will join to the previous rounds of light blue. Then the plan is to do that last scallop round of the doily in white as well to keep the colors matching. This doily pattern is already quite a favorite, so I'm excited to go all the way and finish this large doily. What is neat about it is that I could stop at round 9 (where the first scallops are) and that doily alone would look really nice too. But this is going to be my November project, so I'm shooting to finish it by Thanksgiving and then the Tatting Improvement List begins with the New Year! Exciting, Exciting, Exciting! Stay tuned!

New Project

I've started working on a new project the other day that I am kinda excited about! I had some thread left over from the lace mat tat-a-long and decided to use it up. Since I learned how to do split chains a month or so ago, I am eager to try new challenges and techniques. So with this Lizbeth antique violet thread, two shuttles and a paperclip (is that one word, I dunno) I am starting with Le Blog de Frivole's pattern called 'Quatrain.' Here is what I have so far!

I'm just about ready to do a small split chain, then a  split ring climb to the next round!

What got me thinking on all this is the Tatters Across Time badges that some of the lovely blogs I follow have: like LadyShuttleMaker and Fox at Tat-ology, just to name a few. I've got so much on my plate right now that I can't quite commit to a study like the Tatters Across Time, but I can still work on and improve my techniques. No more sloppy tatting or cutting corners for me!  So I am embarking on a quest to improve my skills and strive for new adventures! There shall me needle tatting, interlocking rings, and a project involving 6 shuttles ahead!! It's exciting to think about! But I am curious if any of you have advice on whether or not you liked the Tatters Across Time program? I'd love to hear form you!

Completed Lace Mat

Here it is! The completed Lace Mat from Jon's Tat-a-Long!

This is a gorgeous pattern that I enjoyed so much, I'll be starting another one soon! Jon did a great job at re-diagramming this antique pattern! It was fun to think of all the other tatters around the world who were making the same doily I was here in Illinois. I'm still not 100% sold on the color choices that I picked, but like I said, I'm going to start another one soon. Thanks for all the great feedback on this doily and may all your tattings be blessed! Latest Projects...

 Mom and sister are away to Florida this week so I've been holding down the farm with my dad. We have had some rainy days lately, so that's made for plenty of tatting! Here are some of my projects and what I'm working on:

Tat-a-Long: I'm on the last round and then to add little clovers! I'm not 100% pleased with my color choices. I think a mix of a variegated thread and a coordinating solid color would've been better; like tat-ology or Margaret's. I've really enjoyed this pattern so I'll definitely be making another one, oh the thread choices are endless!! I actually had an idea today...I just might cut out the center, brown part, and re-tat the center in a more compatible color! How's that for getting one-self out of a tatting conundrum! :o)

I also had some great feedback on my Facebook page about this doily! My cousin suggested that these three colors look better in pairs then they do as a three-some. Some lighter, but still rich shades of blue, yellow, and pink were suggested. What do you think? What color would you put in the middle of this doily?

Classic Doily: I've been plodding along on Linda's doily. It will look better once I've finished the rounds of chains and has been blocked. I'm still in LOVE with this color! It's Lizbeth Wedgewood light

The rounds of chains in this doily pattern remind me of one of my favorite plants: Hens and Chicks! See how they both have the look of an optical illusion!
