Speaking of Shamrocks, Irish, and all things celtic, I've been working on interlocking rings with one shuttle. Here is the link for the foundation video and I have been watching, over, and Over and OVER to get it right. I quickly found myself in the same predicament as Jon from her Tat-a-Renda blog. To make all the rings lay the same direction, it all comes down to how you position the thread for the final ring. Her blog post HERE has a great picture to show you how to thread the final end through the last and first ring. These interlocking rings are also a great way to use up extra thread on your shuttles from previous projects!! Here are a couple that I've been playing with:

More Antique Medallions

 Here are a couple more medallions that I worked on last night and this morning. Again, these are from the DMC Tatting book from the antiquepatternlibrary.org; HERE is a direct link to the PDF book.


The picture at left is medallion #15, tatted with two shuttles. The end of the pattern for this medallion says to "fill in the center of the
medallion with 8 needle-made overcast bars." I looked up this pattern on InTatter's Forum and there are some sites and links listed that talk about this technique, so more on that tomorrow!








Pictured here is medallion #18. This one is also tatted with two shuttles on the outer rounds, and one shuttle on the inside.



All the others that I've made are hanging in my ficus tree! They look pretty cute!

 Here is my next project from the DMC book. I still have two hankies that I'd like to put edgings on this summer, so maybe I'll chose one from this book! The edging in the lower right corner really has my interest because the rings that are in the first row are only half closed! What a great idea!

Finished!

 I finished the Antique Purple Doily last night! This is a pattern from an old Handy Hands Newsletter. It's called the Adrienne Place Mat and it measures 11 inches from point to point. I'm really pleased with the way the colors all turned out. I've actually started another one that will be tatted a solid color. I've chosen Lizbeth Sea Green, a nice light pastel for the Easter season, so I'll post more pictures on that soon!

Antique Medallion Patterns!

Antique medallion #21

These are two medallion patterns from the DMC Pattern book I wrote about yesterday. Both are tatted in Size 10 crochet cotton and they make jolly little snowflakes. We did end up getting 9 inches of snow yesterday. It snowed for 19 hours!!

The medallion pictured at left is #21 in the book found at the LINK HERE. It's tatted with two shuttles and I love the look of the little Josephine rings at the top.

Antique Medallion #17

The medallion pictured here is #17. This one is also tatted with two shuttles. I used a split ring to climb out of the center ring so I didn't have to cut ends. This pattern is interesting with all the little Josephine rings in between the chains. Gotta love antique patterns!

ANTIQUE PATTERNS EVERYWHERE!!

 Ever have one of those moments on the Internet, where you see a picture, link over to another website, and another, and another, and before you know it you've got a millions tabs up and don't remember where you started in the first place?!?!

That totally happened to me this afternoon.

 I saw this picture on Pinterest from John's tatting blog. Be sure to check out his blog; his tatting pieces are GORGEOUS! So after seeing this picture I Google Searched antique patterns and came across this website........

 I found this website; the Antique Pattern Library! They even have a Yahoo Group you can join!

THE ANTIQUE PATTERN LIBRARY. ORG!!!

 I picked a DMC Tatting Library book to download and just look at some of the pretty goodies that are inside!! Once again, we are forecasted for 9" of snow (we usually get around half of what the weatherman predicts) so it's time for a snowstorm project!

 The directions are all in English (some of the books are in French) and HERE is the link for the book I picked out. It's just like going to the library and picking up a new book, except you get to keep these and print them off!

 OH! and a huge 'Thank You' to everyone who commented on my previous post about the Purple Antique Doily! I'll be sure to post more pictures soon! I'm half way done with the second-to-last round! Have a great week everyone!

Two-Toned Purple Antique Doily

I've always admired this doily/plate mat set. Now I'm finally tatting it! It's from an old Handy Hands newsletter from 2011. I've been writing down the pattern as I tat from the original instructions. Am I the only one that does that? If an antique pattern is confusing for me to read, I re-write it with my own abbreviations. This has been my piece to work on at night, after a day outside with the horses or after work. The 'spikes' in the doily is what my eye first saw when I looked at the black and white photo, so I decided to get the colors to reflect that. 

I had almost a whole ball of Lizbeth Dark Purple so I coupled that with a DMC Lavender. I do like the look of it as it's tatting up, so I think I'll do it in one solid color next and see how it looks. The larger mat towards the top of the picture looks like it could be fun too! : ) Maybe that will be my summer project.

And of course the minute I put in on the floor to take a picture my kitty, Mocha, comes over and wants to help. At least she didn't play with my shuttles and tangle them all up this time!
